Medical Assistant - Dermatology
The Medical Assistant serves as an integral member of a team of health care providers, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, & mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of excellent and compassionate patient care and outcomes.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate efficient patient flow throughout practice. Put forth a high level of energy and attention on ensuring that each patient has the most comfortable and convenient experience possible.
- Assist the provider as needed during exams and/or procedures, helping the provider be as efficient as possible.
- Seek to be one step ahead of provider and anticipate needs before they arise.
- Give direct patient care as directed within scope of training.
- Room patients, update history, handle medication refills/documentation.
- Act as a scribe for dermatology clinic visits.
- Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.
- Be sensitive to wait times of patients. Communicate frequently with patients when provider is running behind, and they are waiting. Inform team lead and provider when clinic is running behind so that patients can be notified, and efforts can be made to contact those who have not yet left home for their appointments.
- Efficiently enter information into the EMR system.
- Efficiently set up for procedures and obtain written consent.
- Obtain high quality, consistent digital photographs before and after each procedure.
- Remove sutures and become familiar with signs of problems with surgical wounds that would necessitate calling a provider.
- Check patient vitals as necessary.
- Ensure all verbal and written post care instructions are given to each patient.
- Administer Medication as directed by the provider.
- Answer telephone and transcribe accurate messages.
- Maintain exam room stock levels an perform routine maintenance of exam rooms, to include instruments, gauze, other supplies, and patient handouts, disinfecting the room between patients, etc.
- Ensure that any broken or unsafe equipment is removed from the clinic in a timely manner and notify the appropriate personnel.
- Travel to other VIVIDA Dermatology sites may be required
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Two years (2) Back Office experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATIONS ETC REQUIRED:
- Medical Assistant Certification
